Proposal

              Considering I will be spending three months researching and educating myself about the topic I choose, I thought very hard and carefully about it. There are many issues and topics in the news today that I have a great interest in. However, none of them draw me in like a certain topic in history. In a general sense, this topic is World War ll. When I was about ten years old, my dad introduced me the the movie “Pearl Harbor”. I absolutely loved it, and is one of my very favorites to this day. Watching this movie sparked my interest, and I have absolutely loved learning about it since. I have never gotten a chance to deeply study and pursue my learning about the many aspects of this very historic event.

                  While I have mainly only studied the Pearl Harbor aspect of this, there is obviously much more that contribute to the war. I want to be able to understand in depth, the causes and effects that made this such a huge event in the worlds history.  Considering there is so much to world war ll, devoting three months to learning about it will not be a problem at all. Since I am already very interested in this topic, I think that its easily worth a semester of my attention.

                  Since this is such a broad topic, I am semi-familiar with certain areas of it. For example, I am very aware of the happenings of Pearl Harbor and the atomic bomb in Japan. On the other hand, I am not as familiar with the holocaust aspect of it. The nature of my knowledge about World War ll is quite small and vague. During my junior year of high school, I took a U.S. history class. My teacher did cover this, but by the time I realized I wanted to know more about it she was done teaching it. With this assignment, I hope to gain more knowledge and learn the things I didn’t get the chance to while still in high school. I have watched many movies and documentaries pertaining to this subject, so I do feel like a have enough background knowledge to get me started in writing an effective blog.

                  Since there are many websites, books, and movies that are dedicated and written just about this topic, I will have a very wide variety of sources available to me. This will be an advantage when making my blog the most successful and accurate it can be. Some useful sites that I may use include are: ushmm.org (website for the united states holocaust memorial museum), history.com (website for the history channel), or familysearch.org (records of prisoners of war). Something else that may come in handy are the many movies made about this event in history. Some of these may include Pearl Harbor or The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Another great resource I could gather evidence from would be books like A Higher Call, The Diary of Anne Frank, or The Ghost Soldiers.

                  Seeing I have pretty decent amount of background information, and the desire to learn more I think that World War ll is a very worthy topic for me to spend the semester studying. I am very eager to learn more about one of my very favorite subjects, and I look forward to making the best out of this assignment.
